When your child grows up and moves on, dealing with the empty nest syndrome can be increasingly difficult. After all, you’ll not only need to deal with the additional time and missing your child, but what to do with his or her old room and belongings? Most parents opt to leave the room as is, but if you could use extra space, here’s a redecorating ideas to deal with your empty nest.

1. Make room
However tempting it may be to simply leave the room alone, it’s time to clear out some space. Spare room in your house can be a hard thing to come by, and there’s several ideas that can come from your empty nest redecorating ideas.
Don’t leave that cluttered room alone, and start your redecoration by clearing it out. You’ll have more space and room to store things or to turn the room into something completely different. Start by clearing out the room and storing your child’s belongings carefully.
2. Converting into a guest room
Having guests spend the night will be infinitely easier after this redecoration. Change the bedding and decorate the room with your own flair or a simple spartan look. Dedicate a few extra piece of furniture to help give your child’s old room that extra special feel. A fresh coat of paint wouldn’t hurt either. Turning that room into a guest bedroom can eliminate that empty nest feel around the house when you are having friends over.
Not only that but when they return to visit they’ll have a clear and clean place to stay. Also the next time your guests are staying over, you’ll have the piece of mind knowing that they are covered.
3. Hobby Room
Enjoy models, crafts or sewing? these are all excellent hobbies that could use a dedicated room of their own. Depending on your personal taste and budget, change your child’s old room into a dedicated hobby room instead. You’ll have an easier time relaxing and relieving stress with just a few tweaks to the room.
4. Man Cave
What better way to cope with your empty nest than a dedicated man cave? Install a flat screen TV, a few lounge chairs or a sofa, and have your bros come over for the big game or a weekend hangout. Ping pong tables or even pool are excellent ways to transform that old room into one you’ll love to walk into.
Having a dedicated office or den can do wonders for your efficiency. Not only will you have a place where you can retreat to complete your work, but you’ll be uninterrupted as well. Move in a desk and a rolling chair, filing cabinets and half the work is already done!
Now that your child has moved out, you’ll need a way to stay in shape and active. Installing workout machines may be a bit of a stretch, but a yoga mat or weights isn’t too much to ask. Install rubber mats to protect the floor and maybe a TV to pass time between sets. You’ll find yourself working out through the empty nest blues in no time.
