How to ease back to school nerves

How to ease back to school nerves

North Texas Real Estate Tips

The start of the school year is not exciting for all. For kids that have been bullied, or struggle with schoolwork, the start of the year can bring expectations of hurt or struggle – causing anxiety.

Here are a few tips for parent of kids experiencing some back to school nerves.

1.Find support

A supportive community of parents can be one awesome way to help your child deal with the challenges of back to school. Parents dealing with similar issues can collaborate to help their students feel more at ease. The advice and resources that come with a group like this will help you as a parent too! Linking with families also experiencing back to school nerves can make is easier to talk to the school, the doctor, or each other about what’s going on with your child.

2.Talk through it

Check in with your kid on the first day and through the year! Keep conversations open ended and see where your child takes it. Things that may seem trivial to you, such as tripping in front of others or stuttering while reading aloud, can have a big impact on your child. So keep an open mind when listening to your child. Authenticate your children’s feelings, take time to understand. Then help them brainstorm solutions!

3.Connect with school staff

It’s important to talk with teachers early in the school year. There is often a formal process organized by the school for kids who receive special education. But any parent can ask to meet with school staff.

Take time out of your schedule to talk to teachers at the start of the school year. Any parent can request to speak to school staff. When meeting with your student’s teacher some topics of conversation may include: behavioral problems that have been issues in the past, specific fears that your child is experiencing, struggles with school work and ways the teacher can assist.

4.Get familiar

Take a trip to the school before classes start. Walking from class to class, checking out the lunch room, or finding the most accessible bathrooms are all things that may help your child feel more confident when it comes to the real deal.

5.Create a role for them

Letting your children take charge of picking school supplies and organizing them can help get them more excited for the upcoming school year. Looking forward to using that new pen or cool notebook can make the anxieties fade to the background for just a bit. Talk to your children about their role as a student and their “job” to study and learn. Explaining the importance of education can help your student feel ready to engage.

How to help kids adjust to a new school?

How to help kids adjust to a new school?

North Texas Real Estate Tips

New curriculum, new friends, new home, new neighbors… all of these “new”s can be overwhelming to a child adjusting to a move. When you move homes your child will not only move homes, but also schools. For kids this is a hard situation to be in.

If your children show signs of discomfort about starting at a new school, here are a few things that may help ease their fears.

1. Acknowledge their anxiety

No matter your age – the first day of school is always a bit scary. Reassure your kids that their feelings are normal. To show them that you’ve been there comfort your kids with stories about how you survived your own first days of school (or tell them about a scary situation that you made it through just fine)!

2.Take a trial run

Check out the orientation day at your new school! Take tours, view classrooms, and meet teachers. If your school doesn’t host an official “open house” then call the school to schedule one. Figuring out where they will need to catch the bus, go to class or even eat lunch can be a huge comfort. Take it to another level by walking through your child’s class schedule with them, simulating their day!

3.Meet the parents

Meeting your neighbors and parents at your new school can be a great help for your kids. You can hear first-hand how families have navigated the school district, and even arrange play dates or meet-ups between your kids and other students. Start making connections as a classroom volunteer, or mingling at the bus stop to chat to other parents.

Talking to other parents from your school can give you some insight into what you and your children can expect. You may even set up a play date with other children who will go to the same school. This helps the kids by having a familiar face even on the first day! Becoming a classroom volunteer is a great way to get connected to your child’s school as a parent.

4.Pack a special lunch

When your kid opens their lunch on the first day – a special meal or even a note from you can make them feel a bit more at home. Give this a try to add a little bit of mid-day encouragement to your child’s school day.

How to create your ideal minimalist space?

How to create your ideal minimalist space

North Texas Real Estate Tips

One of the key aspects of minimalism is finding the middle line between too much and too little. Achieving this special balance is the main desire for a minimalist home. This means that if you want to give the minimalist lifestyle a try – you don’t have to throw away everything… just the things that you have no use for on a daily basis.

In your search to create the “just right” home we hope that these basic tips will point you in the right direction.

1. Just Right Space

When searching for your “just right” space look for something that will neatly meet, but not exceed your needs. Trends show that more Americans are choosing to live in smaller square feet; single family homes, condos, and mini homes are the new normal. The “just right” minimal lifestyle is something that many millennials are interested in. They no longer see the need for a formal sitting room or dining room – instead favoring smaller spaces that take less time and money to maintain.

2. The Right Amount of Furniture

Furnishing your home in a minimalist style has the reputation for creating a “cold” space. This doesn’t need to be the case! When looking for furniture select pieces that are the “just right” size. You don’t want the couch to overpower the room or to leave it feeling empty. One way to be sure you get the right fit is to measure the space before you go shopping – then utilize those measurements when making your choice.

3. Ideal Amount of Décor

When living the minimalist lifestyle clearing clutter is important. When you decorate in this style look for pieces that are functional (not just decorative), these will help you maintain a clean space instead of adding clutter. Keep only items that you need! Spend some time determining what items are important to you and how they fit into your unique space.
